Jeffrey Leo Butler, 64, of Cornstalk, passed away on July 8, 2026, at 5:13 p.m., surrounded by love and with the assurance that he knew what waited ahead.
Born September 14, 1961 in Blue Sulphur Springs, he was the son of Leo Verlie Butler and Janet Clark Butler.
He was the definition of a jack of all trades. He could weld the crack of dawn and a broken heart, build a bridge between highways or hearts, and fix nearly anything placed in front of him. A deep thinker with remarkable ingenuity, he was always building, modifying, or dreaming up a better way. If there wasn’t a tool for the job, there was a fair chance he would make one.
Throughout his life, he worked in the coal mines and owned his own body and paint business, Smash Palace. He also worked Court Construction, and Orders Construction. A certified heavy equipment operator, he especially loved crane work and bridge construction.
He was an exemplary employee and a boss who knew good work was done by good people. He took pride in keeping projects on time, and finding potential in the people on his crews. When he saw ability in someone, he helped develop it. He didn’t just build roads and bridges; he built confidence in people.
Cars were one of the great loves of his life. An avid collector, he loved car shows, Hot Rod Magazine, working on cars, talking about them, and possibly bringing home just one more. He also loved his Harley and the freedom of the open road.
He shared 23 years of marriage with his wife, Ada, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and plenty of stories. Whether attending a car show, or working on a project, they shared many memories over the years, weathered hard seasons, and celebrated good ones.
He adored his children and grandchildren, and perhaps nothing softened him faster than a baby. If there was one in sight, chances were good that child would soon be snuggled in his arms. His infectious laugh could fill a room, and his presence was not easily forgotten.
He enjoyed farming and could happily pass the time on a tractor or mower. Some of his best thinking was done sitting beneath an oak tree, pondering life. His hands were rarely idle, and neither was his mind. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He worked hard, thought deeply, loved fiercely, and laughed loudly. He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, work built by his own hands, roads traveled, bridges crossed, cars restored, babies held, and people who will carry pieces of him for the rest of their lives.
He will be deeply missed, but rest assured, he is glad to be home. He knew what waited ahead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved son, Casey Leo Butler; daughter in law Krista Elizabeth Butler, nephew James Hanson
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 23 years, Ada Butler; his children, Amanda Reed (Gale) Corey Butler; his stepchildren, Debbie Bostic, Marilyn Eagle (Chris), Alexis Blake; his grandchildren, Lydia Price (Chris), Gale Reed III, Kaselynn Butler, Memphis Butler, Lorelei Eagle, Morgan Eagle, John Toney; great-granddaughter Magnolia Reed his siblings, Judy Queen, Sandra Jones, Rocky Butler, Peggy Blair, Bruce Butler, Michael Butler; and a host of extended family members, friends, coworkers, crew members, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
His work here is done.
And knowing him, he has probably already found something up there that needs fixed.
Visitation will be Saturday evening, July 11, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 with a short service at 7:00 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle.
