Annaelle Capaldo

Annabelle Young Capaldo, 95, of Alderson, West Virginia, passed away on September 1, 2026.

Born on April 17, 1931, in the Three Forks of Williams River in Nicholas County, West Virginia, Annabelle lived her entire life in the Mountain State she loved.

Her early years were spent in Bolair, Webster County, and in the Pineridge Bottom community of Greenbrier County, before her family settled in Rupert, Greenbrier County. Her married life carried her to AnJean and Alderson in Greenbrier and Summers Counties, and to Gauley Bridge in Fayette County — communities where she left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Annabelle was the beloved wife of Peter Paul Capaldo, with whom she built a home that was always open, always warm, and always full. She was known for her generous nature, her sweet smile, and her extraordinary cooking — a gift she shared freely with children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors alike. Her home was the heart of the community, and her table was never without a place for one more. She had a gift for making everyone who crossed her threshold feel welcomed and cherished, and extended family found in her home a safe and loving refuge.

In quieter moments, Annabelle enjoyed reading, sewing, and the patient art of completing puzzles — pursuits that reflected the same care and attention she brought to everything she did.

She is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Peter Paul Capaldo; nineteen siblings; and two beloved grandsons, Justin Fick and Jeffrey Woodson.

Annabelle is survived by her three children: Patricia Capaldo Fick, Spouse Happy, Peter Paul Capaldo II, Spouse Ginny and Carol Capaldo Kolman, Spouse Leonard. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jason Capaldo, Alyson Fick, Kimberly Palmer, Lori Phillips, Anna Miller, Megan Fick, and Vincent Kolman; thirteen great-grandchildren: Molly and Zakary Goshow, Pasquale White, Kimeran Palmer, Ana, Milton (Cole), Elizabeth, Lilly and Mirium (Paige) Phillips, Wyland and Iylabelle Miller, and Ryelle and Kendalene Buckland; two great-great grandchildren: Jenny and Jase White; and a cherished circle of nieces and nephews too numerous to count, each of whom carries a piece of her warmth and grace.

Annabelle Young Capaldo was a daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law and aunt in the fullest sense of each word. She will be dearly missed by her family, her friends, and every life she touched.
