Daniel Moses I

Daniel Lee Moses I, born May 10, 1956, to the late Donald Elonzo and Vida Doris (Huffman) Moses in Mt. Nebo, West Virginia, entered the loving arms of Jesus on September 18, 2026.

Danny, or “Rooster,” as he was known to nearly everyone, was a kind, generous, and hardworking man. He believed people were innately good, and he helped anyone, any time he could. Rooster loved Jesus, and he loved his family. He was an example of resilience and strength. He taught his children the value of hard work and the power of a man’s word. If Rooster told you he’d be there, he followed through on that promise. Whether you knew him as Danny or Rooster, you knew a man whose generosity and unwavering word left a lasting mark on everyone he met and a laughter that left a smile on your face.

Rooster loved nicknames, and nearly everyone he was close to got one. He never called his siblings or his kids by their given names; nicknames were his way of telling you he loved you (whether you liked the name he picked for you or not!).

To know Rooster was to love him. He had an infectious laugh that could bring a smile to any face.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene, and his brothers, Dale and Darrell.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Karen Louise, who faithfully stood by his side for nearly 40 years; his son, Daniel Lee Moses II (“Bunk”), of Ansted; and his daughter, Elizabeth Marie Foley (“Beth”), and her husband Damian of Mohrsville, Pennsylvania; and his cherished grandson, Hunter (“Buddy”), also of Mohrsville.

Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Don Moses (Doris) of Westminster, Maryland; Delmas Moses (Sandy) of Hico, West Virginia; David Moses of Ansted, West Virginia; and Dennis Moses of Victor, West Virginia; and his sisters, Carla Clark (Ralph) and Laura White (Alfred), both of Victor, West Virginia, along with many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Karen, Bunk, and Lizzie wish to extend their deepest gratitude for the extra love and support of Carla, Laura, David, Ralph, and Alfred, whose daily presence, care, and companionship brought comfort during the final months of Rooster’s life.

The void Rooster leaves in our hearts is immeasurable, but we are grateful for the promise of Heaven and the assurance that one day we will be reunited with him.

Services will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Wallace & Wallace, Ansted with Rev. Jesse Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens. 

Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
