Margaret L. Peck Hankins Delay, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026.
Born in Ansted, West Virginia, on January 6, 1936, to Delbert and Agnes Peck, Margaret’s life was a testament to God’s grace and faithfulness. Declared stillborn at birth, she entered this world as a fighter and remained one throughout her life. She endured the loss of two husbands and her beloved son, Mark, and courageously battled cancer many times. Through every trial and heartbreak, Margaret never wavered in her faith, continually praising and trusting in the Lord.
In 1954, Margaret married Raymond E. Hankins, and together they shared 28 years of marriage until his passing in 1982. From this union came two children, Linda (Tilman) Cole, who survives, and Mark Hankins, who preceded her in death. Margaret’s greatest joy was her family. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dustina (John) Cameron and Raymond (Erika) Cole; and her great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Ruth Cameron, Zoey Foster, and Aubrey and Alex Cole.
In 1984, Margaret married Robert Delay, and they shared 32 wonderful years together until his passing. She lovingly welcomed his family as her own, including Steve (Amy) Delay and grandchildren Ryan and Jason Delay.
Margaret was a devoted homemaker who dedicated herself to her family. Following the passing of her first husband, she worked at Hawks Nest State Park, where she was known for her kindness and strong work ethic.
Above all else, Margaret loved the Lord. She openly shared her faith with others and lived as an example of Christian devotion. Her family often heard her speak of her longing to be united with her Savior and the loved ones who had gone before her. While those who knew her will miss her deeply, they find comfort in knowing that she is now in the presence of the One she faithfully served throughout her life.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her dear friends, Mary Cole and Jo Ella Herbert, for their love and support. They also extend sincere thanks to the congregations of Gum Spring Baptist Church and Ansted Baptist Church for their prayers and encouragement over the years.
A special thank you is extended to the staff of Fayetteville Healthcare Center for the compassionate care shown to Margaret throughout her final days.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a church, ministry, or charity of your choice in honor of Margaret’s lifelong faith and commitment to serving the Lord.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…” – Matthew 25:23
