Ray searched every news article and technical book he could find on rockets and space travel. He had to get into this exciting field. In 1968 Ray got another chance, he joined Philco Ford at the Manned Space Craft Center in Houston. He worked in simulations helping train the astronauts for future Lunar Missions. After Apollo he worked on Skylab, the first orbiting laboratory. Ray received a NASA Accommodation for his work in recovering bad data from the EREP data tapes which were used by forest and ocean scientists. Later, when asked about his work on Apollo, Ray would comment. “I really did not have that important position but it was great to be involved in such a national project and work with so many talented individuals.”

After the space program Ray joined Bayer Diagnostics as a Field Service Engineer.

Over the 24 years with Bayer he lived in Houston, Little Rock, Tulsa and Newnan, GA servicing clinical analyzers. Ray received many recognitions as Engineer of the South East and willingness to “go the extra mile” in service.
