Brownie Marie Dunn departed this life at the age of 94 yrs on August 8, 2026 at Seneca Trail Healthcare Center.
Born November 4, 1931 in Renick, WV she was the daughter of the late Lee and Nannie McMillion Faulkner.
Mrs. Dunn retired as the Administrator of Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home, currently Seneca Trail Healthcare Center, following twenty-five years of service. During this time, she served as president of the Professional Nursing Home Association of WV and as a board member of the WV Health Care Association. She served on several committees of both organizations. While working at Greenbrier Manor she was chosen “Boss of the Year” by the Lewisburg Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was listed in Who’s Who Worldwide Business Leaders for outstanding leadership in her profession.
Mrs. Dunn was active in fundraising projects, one of which equipped Greenbrier Manor with air conditioning. She served on the board of Habitat for Humanity and chaired an all-church build for a family in the area. She, along with others, worked on “Farm Days” to raise funds to build a new sanctuary for Edgewood Presbyterian Church.
She was an active member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church and served in numerous capacities as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was honored with a lifetime membership in Presbyterian Women for her service. She will always be remembered for her chicken and dumplings at family night dinners.
Following the death of her husband, Virgil M. “Jack” Dunn, Jr. she moved to Florida for a few years where she was an active member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church. As her health began to fail, she decided to move back to her beloved Lewisburg. She moved into her new, independent residence at Season’s Place and soon became the president of the Resident Council, as well as resident ambassador.
Brownie began her school years in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a graduate of Lewisburg High School and was an Honor Graduate of the Jefferson School of Commerce. She became the first woman in Lewisburg to manage a facility the size of Greenbrier Manor. The nursing home was a 100-bed facility with 100 employees and countless families dedicated to accommodating the needs of their loved ones. It was one of the larger business establishments in the area, at the time.
A $10,000 gift in Brownie’s honor was awarded to the Greenbrier County Library by the Seneca Trail Charitable Foundation that was established following the sale of Greenbrier Manor. Additionally, a gift to The Shepherd’s Center in the amount of $20,000 was also awarded by the foundation in her honor. An ardent supporter of West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine from its inception, she was honored for her service to that institution and to the community.
Brownie was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. “Jack” Dunn, Jr and their beloved and only child, Rodney. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Lee and Nannie McMillion Faulkner, sister Frankie Bostic and brothers, Ray, Bruce, Edmond and Buster. She is survived by her grandson, Aaron Dunn, his wife Golda and great-granddaughter, Talia. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
