Barbara Ann McClung ,88, of Rainelle, WV passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior and family on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the Straus Hospice House in Salem, VA after a recent illness and battle with cancer.
Barbara was born into a family of 15 siblings and is survived by 5 sisters: Bonnie Fowler (Mt. Sterling, KY), Ruby Herndon (Mannington, WV), Agnes Bowyer (Friars Hill, WV), Jane Woods (Fairmont, WV), and Millie Evans (Amherst, OH). Though Barbara never married nor had children, in her later years she adopted into her life her “special grandson” Shawn Wolford (Tiffany) and her “grandbabies” Maura and Shaelyn Wolford (Falling Waters, WV), who remain to share her memory. Barbara had many that helped her throughout the years, none more important than Curtis and Linda Simms (Rainelle, WV) who were caring and invaluable to her and were also considered as her “bonus family”. In addition, there are many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors left to remember her time here.
Barbara was born on June 2, 1938 to the late Glen Lake, Sr. and Ina Pearl McClung. She grew up on the family farm near Bingham, WV, a part of a family of fifteen brothers and sisters. Those preceding her in death are her sisters Jean Herndon, Evelyn Plummer, Leta Haddox, Arlene McClung, and Myrl McClung, and brothers Charles McClung, Glen Lake McClung II, Levi McClung, and Lewis McClung.
She grew up helping on her family’s farm and held many other jobs throughout the years, always known as a hard and dedicated worker. She was most proud of being able to graduate from Business College and then having a career as a technician for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. In her retirement years, she was an avid gardener and was exceptionally proud of the plants, trees, and flowers throughout her home and yard. She enjoyed telling stories from growing up or work years and always shared favorite Bible verses or hymns. She kept many pictures of family and her “special grandbabies” throughout her home and enjoyed the phone calls and visits from family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by many.
Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Wallace & Wallace with Shawn Wolford officiating. Interment to follow in the Rainelle Cemetery near her parents and other family. Visitation will be from 1:00 until time of service at the funeral home.
