Leonard Petterson King born on March 17, 1932 in Starkey, Virginia. He entered into his eternal home on Sunday, April 19, 2026.
He grew up in Roanoke, VA and spent most of his younger life in Roanoke County. He entered the US Army at the age of 18. In 1969 he moved his family to West Virginia, He was employed at Cole’s Nursey in Pipestem, WV for 18 years. He then later retired from Catawba Memorial Park at the age of 70. He resided in WV until the time of his death.
He was a member of Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse Church with Pastor Butch LeGrand. His hobbies included shopping, spending time with his grandkids, walking and enjoying nature. He loved gardening and anything to do with plants and flowers.
He was the son of the late Petterson LeRoy King and Edna Mildred Brown.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Jessie, Harold, David and Arnold King; five sisters, Gladys Scott, Corrine Gray, Helen Carr, Dorothy Francisco and Doris King.
Those left to cherish his memory are the mother of his three children, Brenda King Haase; two sons, Leonard King (Jennifer) of Alderson and Larry King (Leotha) of Liberty, NC; one daughter, Deborah Nauth (Scotty) of Mills River, NC; 5 grandchildren, Emily Burgess, Crystal Cline, Mariah Jones, Isaiah Jones and Sheena Hanson; 4 great grandchildren, Kingston Burgess, Kaiser Burgess, Hannah Cline and Logan Poteat. He was a “Pawpaw” to many, as he loved all children.
The family wants to thank Brenda King Haase for all her support and help with caregiving.
Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Grassy Meadows Gospel Lighthouse church with Pastor Butch LeGrand officiating. Burial will follow at the McElhenney Cemetery, Grassy Meadows. Visitation will be held Friday evening, April 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church.
