Marshall Joseph Young, 71, of Alderson, West Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
Marshall was born on September 11, 1954, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, to Lester and Phyllis Young.
Marshall was a born-again Christian and was baptized in his faith. He spent his childhood attending Lookout Baptist Church, where his faith was rooted and nurtured. Prior to retiring six years ago, Marshall dedicated 20 years working as a coal miner and 20 years as an over-the-road electrician, traveling throughout the East Coast. He was known for his strong work ethic and for giving the very best hugs.
Marshall had a deep love for the outdoors and spent countless hours along riverbanks with family and friends. He especially enjoyed fishing and turning old wood into new beginnings, bringing smiles to others through his creations. Above all, Marshall cherished time spent with his family and loved watching his grandchildren play sports whenever he was able.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester J. Young.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Phyllis J. Young; his wife, Velinda Young, of 29 years; his children, Joseph (Angie) Young, Howard Thorton, Hollie (Will) Crowe, and Matthew Thorton; his grandchildren, Bobby, Brandon, Evan, Andrew, Wyatt, Melody, Brody, Noah, Caylen, Blayne, Bella, Alijah, and Virginia; his great-grandchild, Myles; his siblings, Jeanne (Tom) Sheets, Danny Young, David Young, Todd (Brenda) Young, Tammy (Walter) Worrell, Michael (Trish) Neal, and Rhonda (Robbie) Bollinger; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Lookout Baptist Church, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Jennette Cemetery, beside the church.
