Sandra “Sandy” Critchley

Sandra “Sandy” Diana Bumgarner Critchley, 70, of Danese, WV passed away on September 23, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 22, 1956 on Loops Road, Danese, WV, a daughter to the late Robert Ray Bumgarner and Glenna Louise Crookshanks.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her loving husband Vernon “Bo” Critchley and a brother Darrell Bumgarner.

Sandy enjoyed camping, fishing, quilting, and making crafts. She found daily joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially tending to her backyard chickens and spending time with her faithful dog, Precious. Above all, Sandy loved being surrounded by family and friends, whether it was playing cards, family gatherings, or just having a cup of coffee on the back porch.

Sandy was a licensed beautician and CNA. She was known for her work ethic, kindness, and commitment to others. Known for her boundless generosity, Sandy was always there for family, friends, and strangers alike.

Sandy touched the lives of everyone who had the honor of knowing her. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that will live on in all of us.

Those left to cherish her memory include: 3 daughters: Becky (Danny) Kessler, Angie (John) Vance, Trishia (Art) Cozart; 4 sons: Mark (Joy) Winters, William (Loretta) Ballenger, Jerry (Kelli) Ballenger, Vernon Nicholas (Misty) Critchley; a brother, Raymond (Mary) Bumgarner; a sister, Sherri Payton; and Brad (Sheila) Grubb who she thought of as a son. She was a beloved Nana to 24 grandchildren: Curtis, Dan, Wesley, Jacob, Shane, Aliya, Savannah, Hannah, Autumn, Mary, Tori, Anastasia, Destiny, Sandra Sue, Lexi, Tyler, Ian, L.J., Brooklyn, Nicholas, Kinsley, Gage, Ethan, Alyssa, several great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Hospice of Southern WV for their loving care and kindness.

Services will be held at Wallace & Wallace, Rainelle, on Saturday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Ron Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Sims Cemetery on Loops Road.

Visitation for friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
