Arlie Morgan

Arlie Hill Morgan, 85, of Arbovale, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2026, surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Born on April 8, 1941, Arlie was the son of the late Samuel and Luna Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Morgan, Austin Morgan, and Alvadore Morgan, as well as several nephews and a niece.

Arlie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary “Maggie” Morgan of Arbovale; his daughters, Carol Morgan (companion Randall Grimes) of Beverly, West Virginia, and Sharon Morgan of Grottoes, Virginia; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylee Halterman (fiancé Jayden Taylor) of Mill Creek, West Virginia, Ryan Halterman of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Chloe Wasnesky and William Wasnesky of Grottoes, Virginia. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Sophia Hill Taylor, who is due in December.

He is also survived by his brothers, Randall Morgan (Dorothy) and Roger Morgan (Wanda); his sisters, Janet Carter and Maria Pierce (Tim); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. A special place in his heart was reserved for his lifelong friends, John and Margie Sparks.

Arlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy, spending much of his military service stationed in Cuba. Following his military service, he worked for many years at Howes Leather Company. After the company closed, he continued working at Interstate Hardwoods until health challenges led to his retirement on disability following his first battle with cancer.

Arlie was a quiet, humble man who never sought attention or wanted to be the center of attention. Though quiet by nature, Arlie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His actions spoke far louder than his words, and his kindness was evident in the way he lived his life. He also had an unforgettable smile, and his family often joked that he was the most photogenic one among them.

In his younger years, Arlie enjoyed hunting and fishing, and throughout his life he found peace outdoors. He took great pride in caring for his yard and delighted in watching the many birds that visited his feeders. Those who knew Arlie rarely saw him without his pocketknife, a pair of nail clippers, and a can of Red Seal chewing tobacco tucked into his pocket. Although he was a quiet man, he loved sharing a good joke and could always bring a smile or laugh to those around him. Some of his happiest moments were the simplest ones, spending quiet evenings on the front porch with a cup of coffee, enjoying the fresh air and the beauty around him.

Arlie lived a life defined not by recognition or accolades, but by quiet strength, unwavering devotion to his family, simple acts of kindness, and a smile that could brighten any room. Though he will be deeply missed, his gentle spirit, warm humor, and the example he set will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Honoring Arlie’s wishes, he was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held in August, with details to be announced by the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Arlie’s memory to Green Bank Senior Citizens, 4498 Potomac Highlands Trail, Green Bank, WV 24944.
