It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Joy Nutter, who left this world on June 16, 2026, at Payton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV.
Born on March 31, 1964, in the charming town of Summersville, WV, Joy graced this world with her radiant spirit and loving heart for 62 wonderful years. Joy was the cherished daughter of Arlington Ray Nutter and Judith Lee Nutter, who welcomed her into a world where she would eventually touch the lives of many. Her journey, though marked by profound personal losses, was one of resilience and unwavering love.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Justin Brandon Fitzwater and Courtney Erin Fitzwater, Joy’s strength and compassion were both a testament and a tribute to the enduring love she held for her family. Throughout her life, Joy found immense joy and fulfillment in her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. Her children were enriched with her wisdom and kindness, and her three precious grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her legacy of love continues through them, as well as through her sister and the many family members and friends who were privileged to know her warmth and generosity. For 27 years, Joy was a steadfast and cherished member of the Hampton Inn family in Lewisburg, WV. Her dedication to her work was surpassed only by the genuine care and kindness she extended to everyone she encountered. Her colleagues and guests alike were touched by her welcoming smile and compassionate nature. Beyond her professional life, Joy’s world was filled with simple pleasures and passions that brought her immense joy. She was an ardent lover of animals, finding comfort and companionship in the presence of her beloved cats and dogs. Her days were often brightened by the captivating storylines of her favorite soap opera, General Hospital, which she followed with great enthusiasm. Joy was a loving person in every sense of the word. Her warmth and empathy were boundless, her laughter infectious, and her hugs were a source of comfort to all who were fortunate enough to receive them. She possessed an innate ability to make others feel valued and cherished, a gift she shared freely and frequently.
As we gather to celebrate Joy’s life, we remember her not only for the love and light she brought into our lives but also for the indelible mark she left on our hearts. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us. Also, honoring her deep love for the creatures who brought her so much joy.
