Patricia “Pat” Gail Deitz of Rupert, WV passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 6, just a few days shy of her 83rd birthday, after an Easter Sunday well spent with her family.
Pat was the first of five children born to the late Eldon and Geraldine Jack Scruggs on April 14, 1943 in Greenbrier County, WV. In 1961 she graduated from Rupert High School. She lived in Kieffer, then later Rupert where she raised her four children. She worked several years as a bookkeeper for various local businesses. Later in life, she worked at SJ Neathawk in Lewisburg until she retired in 2008. In retirement, Pat enjoyed cooking, gardening, sitting on her porch, and completing jigsaw and word puzzles. She cherished her family and friendships dearly. Pat was a salt of the earth Christian woman but was not above bending the rules of a card game in her favor.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Bob and Steven Scruggs. Survivors include her brothers Curtis (Doris) Scruggs, Ronald (Essie) Scruggs, four children Renee (Matt) Tasker of Rupert, Teresa Deitz of Rupert, Lisa (Gary) Bowyer of Ronceverte, Joe (Darren) Deitz of Chicago; nephews Bobby (Jennifer) Scruggs, Christopher Scruggs, and Steven Scruggs ; five grandchildren Shawn, Kyle, Kelsey, Megan, and Charlie; and several great grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2026 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church at Kieffer with Brother Austin Crowder officiating. Entombment will follow at Wallace Memorial Mausoleum, Clintonville. Visitation will be from 12:00 until time of service at the church.
