Larry Cousins

Larry James Cousins, 74, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away early morning Saturday,

February 28, 2026. Larry was born to Nannie Lottie Coleman and Jessie James Cousins on

September 10, 1951. He was a devoted father, brother, husband, grandfather, great grandfather,

and friend. Larry’s life can be encapsulated by five words: Family, Friendship, Fun,

Faith, and Faithfulness. His 74 years of life were filled with an abundance of each.

Larry grew up in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia with his late parents Nannie Lottie

Coleman Mayo and Jessie James Cousins. He attended schools in Greenbrier County and

graduated from White Sulphur Springs High School. Growing up as the youngest of six, his

elder siblings consist of surviving sisters Alice Mayo and Nannie Cousins Johnson. He joins

Freddie, Sammie, and Maxine Mayo.

Larry was a loving and devoted husband to Hazel Marie Graham Cousins for 48 years since

July 1st, 1978. Larry and Hazel went on many adventures together traveling with the church,

visiting family, and so much more. Together they raised two children LaDawn and Kim Graham

and had a total of 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife, Hazel

Cousins of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Two daughters; LaDawn Graham of Hampton, VA and

Kimberly Graham of Roanoke, VA, Grandchildren; Marissa Graham, Sharice Graham, Devon

Graham, Edward Ivy JR (Jaybird) of Roanoke, VA, Santanna Graham of Newport News, VA,

and Antrene’ Thurman (Graham) of Charlotte, NC. Additionally, his great grandchildren; Asean

Banks (Graham), Jaelyn Stanley (Graham), Tramiere Hairston (Graham), Kameron Stanley

(Graham), Khalil Collins (Graham), Jaliyah Vance (Graham), KayLoni Graham, and Edward Ivy

III all of Roanoke, VA.

Although Larry was a quiet and simple man, he had many friends from his years serving at the

church. He leaves behind his “HBO” (Help a Brother Out) brothers, church friends, and many

members of the community. Larry was known not just for being a good friend to many, he was

the friend that could be trusted to drive to doctor’s appointments, help run errands, provide food

and supplies, and save newspapers.

Larry loved to watch Westerns, Wrestling and old TV shows. When he was not serving or

participating in church events, he was completing word cross puzzles. When in the presence of

family, he was very good with children and dogs. He loved to play with his grandchildren and

great grandchildren. They could always expect a tickle from Larry when least expected. He

shared many laughs and fun times over the years at church events, family reunions, birthday

parties, graduations, and the holidays.

Larry was one of the founding members of New Vision Baptist Church. The church was started

in his home along with his wife Hazel and a host of other faithful servants. He was always

devoted to being a disciple of the Lord and loved showing up for his church and their members.

He has served as a Deacon for over two decades serving the majority of that time at New Vision

Baptist Church and previously at First Baptist Church.

Larry was a faithful employee of the Greenbrier Hotel for forty years, working as wait staff. Larry

faithfully served as a shepherd center member, participated in coffee talks, a member of the

nursing home ministry, former member of the church choir, and countless hours of community

service. Larry was always willing to serve food to the community, drive friends around town, and

provide school supplies to all of his grandkids.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday March 14th, 2026 at 1 pm at his home church, New

Vision Baptist Church, in White Sulphur Springs WV. It is with great sadness that the family of

Larry announces his passing. He will forever be missed and remembered. The family wishes to

send a special thank you to his pastor, Bishop Kathie D Holland, and the New Vision family as

well as all who have sent condolences and prayers. We would like to thank the Wallace &
