David McClure

David “Dave” Allen McClure, 53, passed away peacefully yet unexpectedly on February 24, 2026, while out of town on business. A much-loved and respected member of the Lewisburg community and beyond, Dave was a Pocahontas County native, the beloved son of Garry and Jean McClure, and one of the last children born at Marlinton Hospital in 1972.

On Valentine’s Day, Dave and the love of his life, Amelia “Amy” Hope McClure, celebrated 28 years of marriage. Together they raised two children of whom he was immensely proud: their son, Evan Wade McClure, who will graduate from West Virginia University this May, and their daughter, Emily Ann McClure, who will graduate from Greenbrier East High School also this May. Last year, the McClures welcomed Alejandra “Ale” Vazquez Bermudo of Seville, Spain, into their home; though she was their exchange student for only a semester, she remains part of their family forever.

After receiving his accounting degree from Bluefield State College, Dave worked as an internal auditor for Summit Financial Group. In 2002, he began working for the Greenbrier County Board of Education as Chief School Business Official and Treasurer, a position he held for more than two decades. In 2024, together with his business partners, he established Education Consulting Team, LLC, serving boards of education throughout West Virginia—a venture that brought him great joy.

Known for his gentleness, quiet wisdom, wry humor, and remarkable calm, Dave was steadfastly devoted to his family and friends. He had a passion for music—especially bluegrass and the Del McCoury Band—as well as watching sports, playing golf, and taking road trips. He especially loved attending and volunteering at his children’s sporting events. His exceptional warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Dave’s home parish, St. James’ Episcopal Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia. The funeral service will also be at St. James’ the same day beginning at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception in the parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. James’ Episcopal Church, 468 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV 24901. These funds will support the many ministries of the church, where Amy serves as Associate Priest, as well as the upcoming renovation of the St. James’ Memorial Garden, where Dave’s ashes will be scattered.
