James Stanley Starrett, of Four States, WV, passed away at his home on December 12, 2025.
He is survived by his children, Lisa Cowger, Travis Starrett, and Chaney Howard; grandchildren, Eli and Addison Cowger, Brandi Starrett, Kennedy Starrett, Ida Howard, and Owen Sissler; his stepchildren, Anthony and Paul; his five sisters, Robyn, Julie, Janet, Nancy, and Kay; his brother, Claude (Hot Rod); his nephew, James Starrett, who was with him during his final months and supported him through this time; his longtime companion and friend, Mildred; along with many beloved nieces and nephews. James lived boldly, loved deeply, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy and James Starrett; his son, James (Jim Bob); his brothers, Argil Ray (Spike) and Shelby Starrett; and his niece, Felicia.
James was a wild, trailblazing spirit whose boundless energy and zest for life inspired all who knew him. He motivated others by sharing profound wisdom, love, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. He loved adventure—driving his van everywhere, hunting and fishing, searching for ginseng, and riding his motorcycle fearlessly. He brought laughter, joy, and unforgettable stories to those around him, leaving a legacy of courage, love, and a life lived to the fullest.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs, WV
A memorial service will also be held in Marion County, West Virginia, at a later date to be determined.
